After Niah Rescue: Alec & Krit Discussion

MISGUIDED BELIEF

 

When Lydecker learns of Renfro’s testing of his kids and the forced breeding of Tinga with 664 (and the girl’s almost-murder at the male x5’s hands) he will take it upon himself to terminate her, seeing her as more than a threat to his kids’ safety, but a threat to the realization of the Society’s plans.

Lydecker will take a team in to the remote facility (Alec, Jake, Biggs, Max, Jondy, Taffy and others 8 in all?) to remove Tinga, and find that Niah is being held there as well, pregnant and terrified.

Zack will have learned (from his short communication with Max and Lydecker via Logan’s mini-mic) that they’re going to save Tinga, and organize his own team as backup, not trusting Lydecker and not completely sure he can trust that Max hasn’t been turned.

He will be the one to rescue Niah, not knowing who she is at first. She will know him, however, and it will be a shocking reunion once Zack realizes who she is and that she’s pregnant. (Turns out Tinga isn’t even in the same place and only Niah will be saved here.)

Niah will be shot during the escape (in the stomach) and be losing a lot of blood. Zack will carry her to safety, where Max’s team and Lydecker are waiting. Alec will be stunned at the pregnancy, and more than a little freaked out, but when Niah loses the baby, Alec will be relieved; not because he wanted the child to die, but because he is in love with Max and couldn’t imagine having a child with another woman.

[finding out that 714 was pregnant will shock the shit out of alec. he’ll figure out he’s the daddy, max will see his shock and …dare i say… fear and she will nudge a fellow unit mate who will tell her what happened and she’ll feel pain in her gut like never before

when max and alec go after tinga and 714, they will all escape but 714 will get shot and she’ll lose the baby but she will survive and alec will have a ‘talk’ with max wherein he will ask her if he’s a bad person for being relieved that the baby died and max. hearing him speak like that, will begin to think it might mean he doesnt want a long term relationship so she will start avoiding him – enter angst

when zack sees niah there will be a lot of craziness cuz as wanton and predatory as 714/niah  was during heat, she will be scared of men in general sexually due to the abuse she suffered when younger (flashbacks?)]

Alec will ask Max if it makes him a bad person, if he’s horrible for feeling relieved that the child didn’t survive, and she will pull away, mistaking his feelings and emotions, thinking they mean he doesn’t want a commitment that might lead him to have a family.

Alec will not understand why Max has withdrawn, and will be doubly screwed when Zack hears Niah calling out for Alec, immediately understanding that the other man was the father of her child and simultaneously realizing that Alec had somehow hurt Max. This will also mistakenly lead Zack to believe that the manner in which Alec hurt Max was this betrayal; sleeping with another female.

Niah will tell Alec she’s sorry. Sorry she kept pursuing him when he obviously wasn’t interested, sorry for ruining the foreign op where it all began and sorry for not being strong enough to protect their child.

Krit overhears this and attempts to mediate by speaking to Max. Zack, overhearing only part of the conversation, goes ballistic and tells Krit to back off and stop pushing Max back into the arms of a man who lied to and hurt her.

Max, still stinging with hurt, tells both men that Niah isn’t the reason she had a falling out with Alec, that it was just a matter of two people wanting different things. She does not tell them exactly what she thinks Alec meant, but Krit isn’t one to back down when he wants answers and he goes to subtly (or not!) question Alec. After all, Krit wants his little sister to be happy, and her wistfulness and the pain in her voice indicated that she truly loved their brother’s twin.

Krit’s a bit…blunt about it, starting the conversation off with a, “She loves you. What the hell did you do to her?”

Alec will be confused and angry, angry that Krit, a stranger, had the nerve to assume Alec was in the wrong and that he would hurt Max purposely. He tells Krit it’s none of his business and to beat it.

Krit recognizes typical transgenic behavior when he sees it, so he sits down next to a broody and pissed Alec and begins to talk.

“Maybe not, but she’s my sister.” Alec was silent, staring off into the distance. “You’re right. I shouldn’t have assumed you were at fault, I don’t even know you. Hell, I don’t even know Maxie, but I care about her.”

Alec grunted and shrugged, understanding the other man’s feelings and neither accepting nor denying his apology.

“Whatever, man.”

“So, what happened?”

“Hell if I know,” Alec answered shortly.

“Was it about Niah?”

“Niah?” Alec asked, confused.

“714, She was in our unit, back when. Her name is Niah.”

“You 09ers and your names,” Alec snorted. “I don’t know. Maybe,” he added belatedly, in response to the earlier question.

“Did you cheat on my sister?” Krit asked quietly.

“No! It happened before we got to know each other.”

“But the baby is yours.”

“Was,” Alec’s voice cracked suddenly. The knowledge that his child had died was a blow. He may not have wanted a baby with 714, but it was still his child.

“I’m sorry.”

Alec shrugged again. “I was relieved, you know? I like 714, but not like that. She was in heat…the baby…it’s not what I wanted.”

“Did you tell Max that?” Krit probed.

“Yeah. She clammed up and walked out on me.”

Krit nodded, understanding dawning. “Did you tell her why?”

“Why what?” Alec asked, turning to Krit in confusion.

“Why you were relieved.”

“…”

Krit nodded again. “Do you love my sister?” he asked bluntly.

Alec bit his lip and turned away, unable or unwilling to answer.

“Do you love my sister?” Krit asked again, more forcefully.

Alec took a deep breath, letting the air out slowly, his shoulders slumping. “Yeah, I do.”

Krit broke out into a lopsided grin. “Yeah, well that would do it.”

“Do what?”

Krit stood up and placed a hand on Alec’s shoulder. “Look, man, you gotta explain why losing the baby wasn’t a bad thing for you. If I know women, – and trust me, I’ve been around enough of ‘em to have a general idea how their minds work – Max needs to know. She loves you. I think she’s got it in her head that you don’t want a real relationship.”

Alec rose from his position on the floor and turned wide eyes to the other man. “Why the hell would she think that? She knows I love her.”

“Have you told her that?”

“Uh…”

“Could be she thinks that if you weren’t willing to take responsibility for the kid and were even relieved to know you wouldn’t have to…”

Krit watched as the light bulb went on in Alec’s brain.

“Shit.”
