Threads of Existence – Random and Assorted Notes

Other Notes: I had this idea in which the US was aware of the threat against them (the Pulse) and set up american bases with even more extensive capabilities to those within the US in case of such a scenario. This was so that should the worst happen, they had a backup plan. Manticore was the key to their successes, however, and the backup plan could only be put into action after two things – lulling the enemies of the Unites States into a false sense of security, and the Transgenics coming of age enough so that other soldiers would actually follow their orders (regardless of their skill, experienced soldiers and officers were just too unlikely to accept command under a teenager.)

The one thing they hadn’t counted on was the Familiars and their infiltration of the Government on every possible level – or the Familiars’ attempts to wipe out the US’s best kept secret weapons. Also, with the enemy now in positions of power, the foreign based US stations were cut off and under threat themselves.

Only due to the skill of specialized units of Transgenics assigned as PMOOs (Paramilitary Operations Officers) from the NCS – SOG, SAD (National Clandestine Services – Special Ops Group, Special Activities Division) to various posts abroad, did the US manage to keep from losing the support and forces of those still loyal to the United States. Thankfully this is a well-kept secret, though their successful evasions will eventually raise suspicions.

Back home, the Transgenics are rebuilding their operations within Terminal City with extremely limited means. This does not deter them, however.

Max discovers that Alec’s training and skill, while something she finds entirely loathesome, had a higher, bigger purpose than Manticore’s twisted desires. When it comes to light that Manticore’s Committee was a corrupt arm of the Government and Sandeman had been murdered to keep the project from reaching its intended conclusion, she begins to see Alec, and indeed all the other X5s and other operatives, in a new light. (This can either be a stepping stone to a relationship between M/A or just a boost to their existing relationship and some long overdue validation and recognition for Alec.)

May also be able to use the scene with Marrow and Max (Love in Vein) in which he says:

MARROW: Gods. I make them gods. They get a taste of superiority, what it means to be like…us.

MAX: Us?

MARROW: Miss…I’m sorry, I never got your name.

MAX: Kiss my ass.

MARROW: You’re cute. You’re also a freak. You are a mutant, with tangled genetics and a barcode…just like me. The only difference between you and me is that you’re still hunted, and I’m in demand. See, you are fooling yourself if you think you can go on hiding. Sooner or later, the world is going to realize that we are out there, and that we are better than they are. The time will come when they will declare war on our kind, and when they do, I’m gonna have my own private army to protect me. See, those kids out there…they’d do anything for me. Fight…kill…even die.

Can bring in the chaos chapter with Axel, Steve and Biggs and Travis Poole and tweak to fit my needs as well.

BACKSTORY

Can also spin lydecker as the good guy booted by the big bad committee and almost treated to a repeat of sandeman’s mysterious end… and his attention to “his kids” could have been special in the sense that max’s unit was meant for something altogether different but their escape screwed up more than they could ever know

renfro was working for the committee and unknowingly for the familiars. by telling max to find sandeman she was hoping to lead the committee to the runaway scientist, not the crazy cult to murder their missing man; she’s dead anyway so it doesnt matter.
she also handed her objective over to max with her dying words.

(renfro’s experiments (eg, Tinga) were attempts to find out what Sandeman did to the X5 series. When she realized Max had no junk DNA, she knew she’d found the answer. eg, she figured Tinga must be different because she was able to pass her traits on to Case – hence the tank of watery doom (she may also have considered testing any of the retrieved escapees for potential differences. who knew what sandeman really got up to and as far as renfro is concerned, she’s just looking out for project manticore’s interests.)

So the Familiars control the Committee, though no-one actually realizes this. They set Renfro the job of finding out what Sandeman did. She works it out, gets shot for her trouble and gives Max enough information for 452 to complete her mission.

When Max burns Manticore down, the Xs escape and the Familiars realize they no longer have control, hence their extermination efforts

White is controlled directly by the Familiars, not the Committee, so he hunts mAx with no regard for Renfro’s objective.

Timeline Points

—- Sandeman was hired by the (then uncorrupted) Government to be head scientist at Manticore.
—- Sandeman was working on his own agenda trying to create something to combat his former cult buddies’ plans: Max, possibly others.
—- The Familiars catch up with Sandeman and he destroys all files on Max and disappears into the night. Whether he is alive or dead is as yet unknown.
—- The 09 escape happens. Lydecker tries to contain the project on orders from the President. His failure throws Manticore into chaos.
—- The Committee is formed to run Manticore after the escape (and within a few years is infiltrated by Familiars who have discovered the project through Government connections.)
—- Manticore sends out special units of soldiers overseas as part of the NCS – SOG/SAD. Their objective: to protect Americans abroad as well as secure and maintain prepped and primed military bases and forces abroad.
