HSW: New Plot Outline – Settings

BASIC OVERVIEW – A HAZY SHADE OF WINTER

SETTING: Post season 2, a few odd years since FN, the thwarting of The Coming and fall of the Familiars.

OPENING: Washington, D.C. Someone is enlisting the help of specialist scientists and plans are in motion. Elsewhere, favors are being called in and something is underfoot. Lydecker calls Logan with news he’s uncovered but circumstances don’t allow him to communicate the full extent of his knowledge.

MAIN CHARACTER: Alec (X5-494)

SECONDARY MAIN CHARACTER: Logan Cale (Eyes Only). Logan is Alec’s only friend, confidant and anchor during this difficult journey.

OTHER RECURRING: Colonel Donald Michael Lydecker (aka “Deck”) plays the main contact/source for insider information

BAD GUY/S: Lydecker. Manticore is the proverbial phoenix rising from the ashes – and Lydecker is playing Alec and Logan to facilitate his takeover of the project; he’ll do anything to be reinstated as the man in charge. Lydecker pretends to be an ally, feeding a combination of falsities and truths that mislead Alec along the way. He implicated Sandeman, making Alec believe that the man is still alive and behind the project, playing on Alec’s history with the man to fuel his desire for revenge.

OBJECTIVE: Alec takes on a mission to save not only Max, but of the Transgenic nation and ultimately stop what turns out to be a newly resurrected Manticore project.

GROWTH: Alec slowly loses his humanity as he becomes the monster Manticore created him to be in his pursuit of justice and the desire to protect those he loves.

DETAILED SUMMARY: HSW is a non-shipper fic that revolves solely around Alec and his mission. Trust and acceptance are paramount; between Logan and Alec and for the people they care about. It is the story of a man who has to face down his past and become what he depises in order to achieve his ends. But mostly, it is about the lengths to which one will go to protect the ones they love, even if it means losing themselves – and quite possibly the respect of the ones they are trying to save – in the process.

QUESTIONS TO ANSWER BEFORE STARTING THE FIC

BAD GUY CONNECTION: We already know how Manticore is connected to Alec and his extended “family”, but what is his history with Sandeman and why is it so important that the man be stopped? (Eventually would like to have Alec accidentally stumbles across a certificate of death which leads him to discover a long-dead Sandeman – and a great big question mark where the Villain: _X_ should be. But never a slouch or an idiot, Alec puts the pieces together and turns the tables on the big bad.)

HOW BIG IS THE MONSTER: What is the scope of this mission; how big is the Manticore monster and what will Alec have to do to bring it down? Sum it up in short to elaborate upon later.
